Seahorse 3

Coral reefs are a vibrant, colorful, amazing visual treat.  As a habitat for seahorses and zilions of other creatures, just a single square foot contains so much complexity of life; I wanted this sculpture to be as bold, as colorful, and as visualy diverse as possible.

Building it

This enormous sculpture is over 5 feet tall, 5 feet wide, contains 88,516 LEGO pieces, and took 564 hours to design and build.

Much of the sculpture is built in unusual LEGO colors like pinks, purples… (and even an minty green color that we found from an old LEGO Star Wars Yoda set!)  It was tough to build with such a limited supply of parts.

Building all the skinny branches, wiggly tentacles, and colorful details took a lot of time and precision.

My assistant Evan (below, right) took the design lead on the sculpture, and Meghan (below, left) took the construction lead on the sculpture.  In all, it took over 3 months to build together with 8 different builders.
