After the horrific 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde TX, I created portraits of the victims and donated them to the families. Here’s a short clip where I talked a little with ABC News about the portraits I made, and what we’ve been doing to help.
After I’d shared the portraits online last week, many of the victims’ families started reaching out to me. It has been heartbreaking to talk to them. At first I was worried that these portraits would be too hurtful for them to bear, but they overwhelmingly told me that they brought a little light back to their lives.
If one person can do something as simple as draw, and that can make someone feel better, then I guess that’s what art is for; and it means there is hope that a single person can help make at least a small difference.
