Building it

My assistant Jung Ah (below) designed and built this sculpture over the course of two months.  It’s one of the most delicate large sculptures we’ve created to date, so it was important to design it in a way that the various leaves and petals could naturally fall onto one another to create structure and support.

We were lucky that we could purchase a lot of otherwise very rare pink LEGO pieces, but even still were limited by the fact that only a few very small sizes and shapes are available.  We had to layer many, many small pieces together to create the massive pink center of the flower in a structurally sound way.

Google image searches (below) and photos we took of real Lilies were the inspiration and source for the design details of the sculpture.
