Building it
My assistant Evan (below) spent two months building this sculpture. Large flat surfaces are very hard to build with LEGO pieces, because the pieces connect vertically, not horizontally. This meant we needed to build in a lot of bracing and internal supports both with LEGO and the occasional steel rod.
And it really works! (No, not really.)
