This sculpture is paired with a sculpture of a cowering lamb, helping tell the tale of Jean de La Fontaine’s fable The Wolf and the Lamb.
The piece is currently touring France as part of the exhibit “Les Fables de La Fontaine en briques Lego”, created together with renowned Belgian LEGO artist Dirk Denoyelle , other model builders.
In the fable, the cunning wolf uses crafted arguments and his position of power to oppress the lamb. It is often considered a parable for how those in power use such rhetoric to convince others of their oppression.
In creating this sculpture, I wanted to call to the cunning, slick, and reserved nature of such a persuasion. It would not be right, by contrast, to create a wolf with teeth bared about to strike: the heart of the fable lies in the wolf’s ability to use language — not physical prowess — to justify his horrific action.
