Photo of Portrait of 3 boys
3.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall        8,000 LEGO elements.        Completed November 4, 2004
In early November 2004, the mother of these three boys asked if I could create a mosaic of her children as a gift for her husband. I begain working immediately and after a few multi-hour building sessions, it was complete.

The mosaic is about 3.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall, and uses about 8000 pieces. In addition to the basics -- red, blue, yellow, white, and black -- I used dark grey, light grey, tan, green, and orange. That helped achieve more detail, because it meant there’d be was less “diffusion” ... which was important because the mosaic is be pretty small given the amount of detail required.

I hope you like it! The client was very happy with the results, and this piece now sits over their mantle in her home. (She said that all the kids that see it immediately know it’s LEGO, yet the parent’s don’t.) :)

Here is a photograph of me with the final mosaic, and the original photo that I worked from.

"Hey what are you looking at?"
Since only the tops of the LEGO elements can be seen in the final mosaic, I decided to finally get rid of all my eyeball-printed LEGO elements.

Here is the mosaic, about halfway complete.
